Top Features in the All-New Ford F-150

The 2015 Ford F-150 XLT has been completely remodeled for its 13th generation; however, you won’t know it by looking at it. The new truck, now available at Richmond Ford, has a restyled grille and new headlights. The rest of the remodel is pretty much hidden from view. Changes include lightweight aluminum in the body panels and hood. This made the truck about 700 pounds lighter. The aluminum is military grade and in many cases, tougher than steel. The underpinning is made from high-strength steel and is a full ladder-reinforced frame.

Combine the “diet” with a 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine, and you have excellent fuel economy and the ability to handle more payload. The new Ford truck gets 22 mpg* combined. It will tow up to 12,200 pounds if you opt for the 3.5-liter turbo V-6 engine.

For also added new technology including a trailer hitch assist, video cameras and a top-down 360-degree camera view system for help with parking. Another new piece of technology is the 8-inch productivity screen, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.

Trim Levels and Body Styles

You have several options to choose from. Choose a regular cab, extended cab or a crew cab. You also have a choice of three different bed sizes: 5.5 feet, 6.5 feet and 8 feet. And trim levels include the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.

While the XL is pretty bare by itself, you can add Equipment Group 101A. Standard equipment includes 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, a 40/20/40 split front bench sat, a 60/40 split rear seat, cloth upholstery, manual windows, locks and mirrors, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel and a four-speaker sound system. The Equipment Group 101A adds daytime running lights, automatic headlights, power door locks and tailgate locks, keyless entry, power windows and mirrors, a 4.2-inch information display, Ford Sync, Bluetooth and cruise control.

Stand-alone options include running boards, skid plates, appearance packages, a power sliding rear window, CD player, rear parking sensors, box side steps, integrated trailer brake controller, spray-in bedliner, towing packages and different axle ratios.

Ford Debuts Big Changes at NADA

Since Ford lost some of its market share last year, the company is working to recoup that share this year. This means Ford needed to change its strategy so its dealerships would sell more cars and trucks. This means dealers will have bigger inventories of new and updated models that are coming out. Since many of the updated products were not released until the end of 2014, they have not reached full production. The newly redesigned F-150, now available at Richmond Ford, is expected to reach full production in April according to

In an interview with Autonews, Stephen Odell stated that the F-series is the “big driver of volume growth” for 2015. Some of the big changes expected from Ford include more of the F-150 models, and newly updated Edge, Focus and Escape models.

2015 F-150

The 2015 F-150 XLT with a crew cab features a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with twin turbos. Although the engine is turbocharged, it runs on regular unleaded fuel. The engine is backed by a six-speed automatic transmission; and the truck is four-wheel drive.

The new models feature a high-strength aluminum alloy body and a steel frame to make the truck lighter and more economical. The aluminum is the same 5,000/6,000-series grade that is used in commercial transportation and aerospace. The benefits of using aluminum include reduced weight and more strength – it is less likely to dent and corrode.

The new frame is made from high-strength steel and features eight crossmembers. Although the frame is more rigid and stronger than the frame on last year’s model, it is 60 pounds lighter. The entire truck is about 700 pounds lighter, giving the F-150 more towing and hauling capacity, faster acceleration and improved power-to-weight ratio.

If you are considering a truck but didn’t have the Ford F-150 on your list, be sure you add it to your “must test drive” list – you’ll see how much extra power the truck has, how much stronger the body is, and how much more economical it is because of the aluminum body.

Ron Kody Receives Dealers of Distinction Award from Ford!

Ron Kody, the owner of Richmond Ford, received Ford’s Salute to Dealers of Distinction Award from Ford for the time and effort he, his wife and his staff have put into not only his dealership, but the community as well.

Richmond Ford traces its history back to 1917. Ron Kody bought the dealership in 2007 and added Lincoln because he wanted to be an entrepreneur and wanted to do something more exciting with his life. He decided on a dealership because he likes cars and he likes helping out in the community and saw the dealership as a way to do just that.

Mr. Kody supports the community’s health, safety and education. He mentors students at the Hermitage Tech Center’s automotive program. He also supports Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the organization’s Tie One On campaign because the organization stands for the safety of everyone on the roads.

Richmond Ford and its owners and staff also support the Susan G. Coleman Race for the Cure organization by providing a race packet pickup location. He has donated over $175,000 in cash and services to the organization and lets them use his building for the start of the race.

Another organization he provides services for is the St. Jude Radiothon – his building is taken over for two days by the event so Richmond Ford may not sell many cars on those days, but it is worth it to Mr. Kody as the Radiothon helps fund St. Jude’s so children can get the care they need.

Furthermore, Mr. Kody holds an annual teacher’s appreciation luncheon at Patrick Henry High School and hands out gift cards to the teachers.

Mr. Kody says he doesn’t do it all by himself and that he couldn’t do it without the support of his wife and staff. He is able to help keep Richmond safe, healthy and educated through his efforts and charity work.

Help support Richmond Ford by stopping by to say thank you or by stopping by during any of its charity events. New vs. Used Vehicles

Before you head out to a dealership for a new vehicle, you should have two things in mind other than the type of vehicle you want: Buying new or used, and if new, leasing or purchasing. While you may start out looking at used vehicles at Richmond Ford, you may change your mind and choose a new vehicle. Likewise with leasing vs. purchasing – you might think you want to purchase, but you can always change your mind.

Benefits of Buying a New Vehicle

When you buy a new vehicle, you have the most up to date technology and you get to have that new car smell! You also have the manufacturer’s warranty should anything go bad. You can also choose from various trim levels to get what you want for features, and you can add additional options if you choose. You also get to choose which color you want – for the interior and exterior.

Cons of Buying a New Vehicle

Most of the downsides of buying new are pretty obvious, but they include the cost of the vehicle and the cost of insurance. You may be able to afford something new, though it’s not what you really want. When you add the cost of insurance on certain models, that could put the new vehicle out of reach. You have two options – you can look at the cost of leasing, which is not for everyone, or you can buy used.

Benefits of Buying a Used Vehicle

The biggest benefit of buying a used vehicle is that the cost is much lower. You may even find something newer with low miles on it so that you can have many of the newer technologies. Furthermore, when you buy used, the insurance cost is usually lower, and is definitely lower if you can pay cash for a used vehicle. You can also afford the vehicle you want if the price was out of reach on a brand new model.

Cons of Buying a Used Vehicle

The biggest downside to buying a used vehicle is that you most likely don’t have a warranty. However, when you buy a used vehicle from Richmond Ford, you can rest assured that we check out every vehicle on our used car lot. If it needs repairs before we put it on the lot, those repairs are done. You can buy an extended warranty to cover anything that might happen. Extended warranties vary in what they will cover and their length of coverage.

Stop by Richmond Ford today to test drive your next new or used vehicle. While you may have one type in mind, you might surprise yourself with the opposite!

Service Center at Richmond Ford

Tim Tonjes/Flickr Creative Commons

Servicing your vehicle is the key to making it last seemingly forever. You can get hundreds of thousands of miles out of a properly serviced and cared-for vehicle. If you are the type to drive a vehicle until it goes no more, then you should be taking advantage of the service center at Richmond Ford.

ASE Certified Techs

All of our technicians are certified and are trained specifically to work on vehicles, whether you need an oil change, suspension work, tune up, transmission work or even an engine rebuild. You can rest easy knowing that your vehicle is in good hands when you leave it for service with us.

The Importance of Service

Besides the fact that you could void your warranty by not maintaining your vehicle pursuant to the manufacturer’s recommendation, your vehicle could die a slow, painful death if you don’t keep up with the maintenance. A vehicle that is properly maintained can get a few hundred thousand miles on it. This means regular oil changes and tune ups; and repairing things as they break or before they break.

If you let an oil leak go, you could run out of oil and freeze the engine. Even if the engine does not lock up, the metal rubbing against metal puts some serious wear on the engine. Don’t forget that on a vehicle if something goes bad, it will affect something else. For example, if the brake pads are low and you don’t change them, they will damage the rotors and could damage the calipers.
