Ford GT Makes Its Premiere!

It will be a while – sometime in 2016 – before the new Ford GT makes its appearance at Richmond Ford and other Ford dealerships; however, when it does, the supercar segment is going to be forever changed. The Ford GT debuted at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in early 2015.

This high-performance supercar will showcase innovation and technology along with highly efficient aerodynamics. It will feature an EcoBoost engine; and its lightweight carbon-fiber construction allows for a faster ride. At the track, every 100 pounds slows a vehicle down about a tenth of a second so every pound Ford shaves off the GT makes this supercar just that much faster. Additionally, handling, acceleration, safety, braking and efficiency are improved with the lighter body.

The design features slopes and shapes that maximize aerodynamic efficiency by minimizing drag and optimizing downforce. For additional speed and driver input, an active rear spoiler reactively deploys and adjusts its height and pitch angle based on driving conditions.

The GT will be released in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford GT race cars that placed first through third at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. The rear-wheel drive and mid-mounted engine setup helps with balance and cornering. The engine will be a next-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with twin turbos and is expected to make over 600 horsepower. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will transfer the horsepower from the engine to the rear wheels.

The GT is the newest in the lineup of Ford supercars, which include the F-150 Raptor, the Focus RS, Shelby GT350R and the Shelby GT50. Keep your eye on this space or visit Richmond Ford for more information on the 2016 Ford GT or any of the supercars that are currently available.
