Ford Bronco is Going Strong

Kevin is a true testament that the Ford Bronco is a truck that’s in it for the long haul. He purchased his Ford Bronco back in 1989 from Richmond Ford. Today, it has 377,000 miles and is still going strong. From New York to Florida, his Ford Bronco has been through many scouting trips and even rescued other vehicles in distress stuck in mud. It even has the original engine. Not only has his truck been loyal to him, but he’s loyal to his lifelong friend. Kevin refuses to trade in his 1990 Ford Bronco for a newer model or any other truck.

So what makes him so loyal to his 1990 Ford Bronco? It’s a sturdy utility vehicle with four-wheel drive and an outdoorsy elegance. Back in 1990, the Ford Bronco came off the line with a choice of two V-8s or a 4.9 liter 150-horsepower straight-six engine. This rugged two-door truck defined a market niche, and Kevin was sold on it. Many others who have the 1990 Ford Bronco chime in right with Kevin and give it accolades for serious backwoods use, rock crawling and bogging. Others feel that there’s no other competing vehicle built in 1990 that would hold up as well. You still see tons of them on the road today.

From 1987 through 1991, the Ford Bronco saw some chances. A new aero-body style was added and most were being sold with electronic fuel injection. The Nite edition was also available from 1990 to 1992. All Broncos were constructed at the Michigan Truck Plan. V8 engines and automatic transmission became standard in the Nite, Silver and Eddie Bauer anniversary trucks.

2012 Ford Fiesta ST ready to back up its big brother!

Richmond Ford dealer

2012 Ford Fiesta ST

We can’t find much fault with the 2011 Ford Fiesta, but if there’s one major gripe, it’s a lack of power (well, and paddle shifters for the dual-clutch gearbox). However, it looks like that lone complaint may be addressed with the introduction of the Fiesta ST, the smaller sibling to the recently revealed Focus ST.

Similar to the mule caught in Detroit earlier this year, the three-door Fiesta is back with a massive front-mount intercooler, revised body work, new wheels and a high-performance exhaust, along with some racy Recaros that probably won’t make the trek from prototype to production.

While it’s doubtful Ford would port over the Focus ST’s 247 horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost mill, the 180-hp turbo’d 1.6-liter or rumored EcoBoost 1.4 are definitely in the cards. With the Focus ST finally having a shot in the States, the globally-certified Fiesta ST might come along for the ride. And maybe a set of paddle shifters will be included in the package.

2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Pickup

A larger standard engine and more seating capacity are the big changes for the 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor pickup.

For starters, all 2011 Raptors will come standard with a 6.2-liter V8, rated at 411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2-liter engine was an option on the 2010 Raptor, while a 320-ho 5.4-liter V8 was the base engine. The change gives the brawny Raptor an additional 91 hp. Ford says the 2011 Raptor will tow up to 8,000 lbs., making it suited as a support and chase truck, as well as a race truck.

The iron block, aluminum head V8 in the Raptor is a tuned-up version of the unit used in Ford’s Super Duty pickups.

The other major change for the Raptor is the addition of a SuperCrew cab option. The SuperCrew cab adds 12 inches to the truck’s wheelbase and overall length.

The Raptor is 7 inches wider than the standard F-150, due in part to the monstrous triple-bypass shocks from Fox Racing.

The front suspension consists of a coil-on-shock, double wishbone independent setup with aluminum lower control arms and forged-steel uppers.

The rear gets a Hotchkiss-type live axle with leaf springs and outboard shock absorbers.

All four corners will roll on 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain TA/KO 315/70-17 tires.

The Ford powertrain team did extensive durability tests on the SVT Raptor including a 62-mile hot-weather loop in the desert that simulates the Baja 1000. Engineers also put the 6.2-liter V8 through hundreds of additional tests that most Ford engines will never see.

Inside, the Raptor gets a 4.2-inch LCD screen added the instrument cluster. The monitor, adopted from the Super Duty gauge cluster, shows everything from off-road and towing performance to steering wheel angle and drive mode. The menus are navigated with a five-way button on the steering wheel.

Pricing for the 2011 F-150 SVT Raptor hasn’t been released yet, but the 2010 model had a sticker price starting at $41,995 so we expect the cost of the 2011 model to be similar. Dealers will start taking orders on Friday and the trucks will be available in dealerships late this year.

Ford Focus with 305-hp may come to U.S. market

The Focus RS, a three-door hatchback sold in Europe

Ford may add a 300-plus-hp Focus to its U.S. lineup.

The Focus RS, a three-door hatchback sold in Europe, is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder Volvo engine with 305 hp.

Hermann Salenbauch, Ford Motor Co.’s director of advanced product creation and global performance, says the decision to sell the Focus RS here will depend on reaction from U.S. car enthusiasts, such as Focus SVT owners.

Ford is looking for “feedback from the media and customers,” he says. “How much do they like it? Is it really what they want? We are pretty confident that it is.”

The restyled, Europe-engineered 2011 Focus goes on sale here in late 2010, replacing the current model. The car will be assembled in North America. The RS model for the United States would be based on that platform, Salenbauch says. He did not say when it would arrive.

The three-door Focus SVT, a high-performance model, was discontinued during the 2004 model year. It had a $19,205 sticker, including shipping. Salenbauch says an RS model would be priced higher.

British magazine AutoCar published a gushing review of the Focus RS: “Remortgage the house, rob a bank, sell yourself, sell your own grandmother, just do whatever it takes to put an RS on your drive.”
