2016 Ford Focus Preview

The release date for the 2016 Ford Focus RS is unknown as of yet, so you’ll have to keep your eye on this space or stop by Richmond Ford for more information on this model as it becomes available. It is rumored that the new Focus could have up to 350 horsepower. This model is Ford’s answer to the Subaru WRX STI and the VW Golf R.

The RS model’s chassis will be based on the current model, more specifically, the Ford Focus ST, thus giving it an excellent ride. The exhaust layout is different. Wherein the ST features two center-exit outlets that share a tip, the RS will feature two wide-set outlets. Also new is a set of 19-inch Shelby GT500-like wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires. The front grille is almost wide open so it can scoop more air to help cool the radiator and intercooler.

The current Ford Focus makes 252 horsepower – 98 horsepower less than the rumored horsepower rating for the new Ford Focus. The new rating would not only increase this model’s performance, it would elevate the price.

Though Ford hasn’t released which engine it will be using, rumors state that it could be the 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder – the same one that powers the new Mustang. The transmission will most likely be a six-speed manual transmission; and the powertrain could be front- or all-wheel drive.

A fully loaded ST model can reach $30,000, so it is expected that the RS model will be at least that, though it is possible it may be just under that amount.
